
Margaret J. Black, B.A., LL.B.
Prior to being called to the Ontario Bar in 1972, Ms. Black earned a B.A. in Political Science from McMaster University and an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School. She is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Canadian Bar Association.
Ms. Black is a former Mayor of King Township and Councillor for the Regional Municipality of York. She was elected to these positions in 1994, and was re-elected in 1997, 2000, 2003 and 2006. Ms. Black is a recipient of the Queen’s Jubilee Award and the Rural Female Politician Award. She has served as a Director of Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket, as a member of the Greater Toronto Agricultural Action Board, as the former Chair of the York Region Police Services Board, and as a Director of the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation. She currently serves as a Director of the Oak Ridges Moraine Land Trust.
Born in Newmarket and raised on the family farm in King, Ms. Black attended Dr. G.W. Williams Secondary School in Aurora. She is married to a wonderful man and is the proud mother of two amazing sons, both graduates of the University of Toronto.
Anita Phillips (Legal Assistant)
Ms. Phillips is a Commissioner for Oaths and has been with Ms. Black for over 30 years. She is the proud mother of one beautiful daughter and lives in the Village of Schomberg, in King. When not at work, Ms. Phillips volunteers her time with the Schomberg Agricultural Society and the Schomberg Arena Board.
